West Leicestershire Mind (WLM) is a mental health charity
affiliated to National Mind.
Since 1985 we have filled an important role in the community, by
providing services and support to people experiencing mental
distress and those who care for them.
We offer:
A confidential, safe environment in which to talk and be
listened to. Non-judgemental support and information to enable
deeper self-understanding of issues that can affect our lives,
like: low self esteem, panic attacks, stress and anxiety.
Support groups that provide safe, supported environments in
which to steadily build self-confidence and social skills in order
to achieve a greater sense of self-worth.

History
Hinckley was the first town in Leicestershire to form a local
Mind group. The inaugural meeting, attended by sixty people,
was held early in 1985. From the start, Hinckley Mind was a
user-focused organisation.
Initially the charities main focus was education on mental
health issues.
This developed into other services being offered. In 1986
various mental health groups were formed through funding secured
through "Opportunities for Volunteering" and Social Services.
Since its inception the charity has had various homes in
Hinckley, and as from 1997 it has been based in Druid Street.
A major characteristic of the charity has been growth through
serving rural, urban and former coalfield districts of Hinckley and
Bosworth. Therefore a decision was made in March 2002 for a change
of name that would more fully reflect the area in which the charity
carries out its work. Currently, West Leicestershire Mind offers
services through-out the boroughs of Hinckley and Bosworth and
North West Leicestershire.
Since its inception in 1985 the charity has provided an
important role within the local community becoming one of the
largest voluntary mental health service providers in the county,
offering service users a safe environment that encourages
confidence building, self worth, knowledge, skills and
participation.
